Medical Requirements

To exercise the flying privileges of the Private Pilot certificate, you must hold a current and valid 3rd Class medical certificate. To obtain a 3rd class medical, generally, you just need to be in good health and have decent vision. Part 65 of the FAR's defines the requirements for medical certificates, and Subpart D—Third-Class Airman Medical Certificate, defines the specific requirements for 3rd class medicals.
